Can you say, heart-warming? Spirit, dedication, pure hustle, spectacular effort, brilliant hard-work, great intensity and just flat out amazing determination sums up the play of the Toronto Raptors last night in Dallas. Although Dallas without Dirk, this was the first time Toronto beat Dallas IN Dallas since December 30th, 1999.
Lets be honest, did anyone think that Toronto would get a 'W' yesterday night in Dallas, when 1) We're under manned 2) We're on the road, and 3) Dallas has the second best record in the leauge.
They went in the game with no Andrea Bargnani, Sonny Weems, and the usual Reggie Evans and Peja. Jose was game-time with a bad right ankle, and did not play... just what we needed right? Amir Johnson was game-time with a sore back with also stiches above his right eye. Barbosa was also a game-time decision with a sore knee.. but both players decided to play & their effort was terrific as each scored 12 points.
So the Raptors had an 8-man rotation coming into the game.. but the injury bug decided to strike again for us, as Jerryd Bayless rolled his ankle.. then rolled it again in the fourth quarter to leave the game. Linas Kleiza got two pointless technical fouls, to eject him from the game. So now the Raptors are left with 6 players.. with two of them playing through injuries. Barbosa, Amir, Julian Wright, DeMar DeRozan, Joey Dorsey and Ed Davis. Each player played phenominal.
Although Julian had 0 points, the effort he brought to the floor, the plays where he guarded Jason Kidd, or Terry.. Julian Wright was indeed the Toronto Raptors X-Factor for the game in my opinion. He does all the intangable things that don't get on the stat sheet that every team needs.
DeMar DeRozan was sticking the mid-range jumper yesterday night, and also drove to the hole, exactly what we need from the second-year player. DeMar had 16 points.
Joey Dorsey played great.. starting to show he was a great pick up, with 7 points and 8 rebounds.
Ed Davis was the player of the game, as the rookie shined with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks! By far the best game by Ed Davis as a pro, and the best game for the Toronto Raptors this season in general.
What THEY said (courtesy of Raptors.com):
Jerryd Bayless: "It’s a great team effort. I think everyone did their job. We’ve got to continue to hold our cool, there were T’s that were unnecessary but I think it was just the emotions of the game."
Jay Triano: "We said before the game that we’ve got to take care of the basketball with guys playing out of position. I thought we did a better job, even though we had some shot clock violations, but that is us trying to use the ball on the offensive end. Ed (Davis) stepped up, Amir (Johnson) played well and I thought all three of our bigs played extremely well. I love the way that we guarded at the end of the game."
Ed Davis: "Just tried to come out and give the team all the intangibles, the little things. Rebound, block shots, run the floor. Just all the small things."
The Toronto Raptors Fanatic Zone would like to send our warmest wishes to Jose, Andrea, Sonny, Amir, Barbosa, Reggie, Peja and Jerryd for speedy recoveries.. we need you guys!
Next up for the Raptors is the Houston Rockets on New Years Eve!

By: Jonathan Joubran
Yes, our Toronto Raptors are back in action tonight, in the final home game of 2010! Lets hope the Raptors can get back on track, and finish the 2010 year with a big bang! Tonight they square off against the Detroit Pistons.. whom I'm sure they are looking for some revenge on us, after what happened last time these two teams faced each other.
And also, the Fanatics will be there tonight! If anyone is at the game, check us out at section's 102/103 behind the net!
In addition, yesterday was one of the Fanatics birthday, if you see him tonight, greet him a happy birthday! Happy birthday, Cliff!

Raptors Rally With a Win!
By: Jonathan Joubran
Wow, what an incredible, fantastic game!!! Can you say amazing or what?! Fanatics were 8 man down, but I truly beleive we were louder than ever, it was phenominal. From the screaming and cheering, to the signs, our unique chants, and our dance moves, the Fanatics are truly the greatest Toronto Raptors fans the Air Canada Centre and Raptors organization has ever witnessed. With our fantastic cheering, The Raptors fed off our fanatic energy, and took the game with a score of 98-92! Phenominal play by forward Linas Kleiza who is really starting to show signs of consistency who played a team high 45 minutes today, grabbing a double double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Il Mago was on point today, played absoloutley fantastic, getting yet another 30+ game in the point department, 32 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. DeMar DeRozan had a quiet 14 points, but topped it off with a THUNDEROUS slam in the final minute of the game. Jose had a double double with 15 and 14, while Leandro scored 10 points off the bench, including a solifying three pointer in the dieng minute of the game to seal the deal! The full boxscore and highlights is here:
What THEY said:
Brook Lopez: ``Every game I have played against him he has gotten better, he is a fantastic player and is always a great challenge for me. Obviously, he is knock down shooter and he plays very well off that.'' In reference to Andrea
Jay: ``He was huge,'I think early when Andrea wasn't going, he made shots. I know he can shoot the basketball, I think the big thing for us today was his rebounding. He had a real hunger for the ball.'' In reference to Kleiza
Raptors are back at it this Sunday against the one and only L.A Lakers, but sadly the Fanatics will not be there, we are back at it Dec. 22 against Pistons!
Great game! Signing off, 'Till next time, and remember...

Toronto Raptors Fanatics Biography #3
Hi Fanatic Blog Readers,
My name is Davida Gragor, and yes, I too am a FANATIC!
I’ll admit, back in the ‘90’s I was a Chicago fan. But how could you not? The Jordan, Pippen, Rodman trifecta was too strong NOT to be awed by their game play. I remember one year my grandmother got me a Rodman jersey for Christmas and I screamed so loud the whole family’s ears were ringing! :)
I guess my practice screaming for jersey’s has prepared me well for my time as a Fanatic – there’s nothing I have enjoyed more these past couple of months than cheering unabashed surrounded by fans just as crazy as me and who don’t care if I yell or jump up with each play. The Fanatics are an amazing bunch, cheering on an amazing team!
I have always had an overall love for basketball. I love the game, I love watching the game and I love playing the game! In school I played on my junior, middle school and high school teams. When Toronto got their own basketball team I was thrilled! I could finally watch NBA athlete’s and cheer for my HOME TOWN!
Me, Matt Devlin and Joel (@joelreilly/@rtzfans) at the ACC before a game! |
I have been going to (and cheering at) Raptor games since their first seasons at the Skydome (it was still called that back then!). The stadium was so big and the hardwood always looked so small in the middle of it. Thankfully, my boyfriend has the same fanatic love of the game as I do and we have been getting season’s tickets for the last few years, but nothing has been like this year with the Fanatics!
One of my favourite experiences as a fan was getting to visit the Raptors locker room a couple years ago. The MLSE is great with their fans and that is an experience I’ll never forget!
Win or lose, I know my Fanatics will be there cheering the Raptors and I cant wait to see how the rest of this exciting season rolls out!

What A Comeback!
By: Jonathan Joubran
Incredible game last night at the Palace in Detroit, as the Raptors and the Pistons squared off. The Toronto Raptors overcame the largest point deficit in franchise history to win the game. Down by twenty-five in the third quarter, the Toronto Raptors faught back hard, and ending up taking the game 120-116! Boxscore is here. Raptors used a strong fourth quarter, outscoring Detroit 37-17 to take the game.
What was key in our comeback was the phenominal play by point guard Jerryd Bayless tieng his career high with 31 points, to go with a solid 7 assists, 5 rebounds and a steal! Great job by Bayless yesterday in the absense of Jose Calderon. Bayless is really fitting in with this Raptors crew nicely and I love it! Centre Andrea Bargnani is showing signs of consistancy which is what we need from the Italian star, dropping 22 points, but he still needs to work on those rebounds! Mr. Barbosa played absoloutley great off the bench dropping 22 points to go along with 7 assists. If Barbosa keeps up this stellar play, I see another 6th man of the year ballot coming along! DeMar also played nice, dropping a great 16 points.
Key preformance for Detroit: Ben Wallace.. how old is this guy again?! His age didn't show yesterday, as he dropped 23 points, to go with 14 rebounds and 5 steals. He even dropped a three!
What THEY said (Courtesy of Raptors Game Rap)
Jay Triano: "The second half we had four turnovers for four points and they had second chance points worth three. It is not about coverages and it is not about intensity, it is about taking care of the basketball and we did that in the second half and I have never been down by 20 and shooting 65 percent from the field. I knew we had no problems scoring but we had to take care of the ball and we had to box out, I thought we did a lot better job in the second half."
Amir Johnson: “We just had to be accountable for ourselves out there and step up to the plate. We knew what we had to do, there was no question about that, and we just stepped it up."
DeMar DeRozan: "We said that we didn’t want to be get embarrassed and then we responded and got on a roll and won the game."
Overall great game by Toronto, they need this win, good job fellas!
Next up for Toronto is the Bobcats on Tuesday, then they're back at home on Wednesday against the Bulls where it is going to be Italian night! And yes, the Fanatics will be there!

Raps Lose a Tough One At the A.C.C
By: Jonathan Joubran
Defence? Wait, what's that? I havn't heard of it before, and I don't think the Raptors or Nuggets did either yesterday night at the Air Canada Centre! Both teams faught hard, with amazing back and forth action, as Jack Armstrong said during the game: "I'm going to need a neck brace after watching this game" in regards to the fast-paced game.
Very exciting game to watch, as after the first quarter, the score was already 39-33!
Raptors had four players with 20+ points, Bargnani dropped 24, Barbosa came off strong as the back-up point guard to the absense of Jose, with 22 points. Raptors' Sonny Weems, and Linas Kleiza had something to show their former teams, as Sonny dropped 21 points with 7 rebounds as Kleiza lead the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Could this possibly be the break-out game that we need from Kleiza? Let's hope so!
Al Harrington led Denver with 31 points, check out the full boxscore here.
Nuggets' coach George Karl surpassed a tremendous milestone in the NBA this night, as he became the seventh coach to reach 1000 wins, congrats to George! Check out his Arena Link with NBA TV here!
Key reason why Toronto lost tonight though was because, the Fanatics weren't there! Fanatics are back on December 15th against the Chicago Bulls.
Hopefully Toronto can end this losing skid tonight, as they face off with Tracy McGrady and the Detroit Pistons.

Home! Sweet Home!
By: TheRounder™
Andrea Bargnani is on a roll right now so we're hoping for a big night from 'Il Mago'. Both Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen are injured which can only leave Bargnani one choice... to have another break-out game!
Raptors as of late, have not been the best perimeter defenders. That being said, the Nuggets are a 3-point shooting team that can be quite dangerous when allowed. Let's hope the Raps learned from the last couple of games and lock down the perimeter. "Not in our house!"
Toronto has lost five of the last seven games including a nail-biter vs. the Knicks which ended in a 113-110 loss.
Tonight's tip-off starts at 7pm ET on TSN.
Unfortunately, The Raptors Fanatic Zone will be absent for tonight's contest; however, will be back to cheer on our team Wednesday, 15th vs. the Chicago Bulls.
Key Notes:
Raptors Peja Stojakovic is questionable for tonight and Carmelo Anthony is listed as game-time decision.
Denver is undefeated in the past six meetings with the Dino's. Here's hoping the Raptors break that record tonight!

It's game night! The Toronto Raptors take on the Denver Nuggets. Don't expect Denver to sit back and let this one slip them by. They plan to attack the Raptors tonight after losing the last two games against the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Bobcats.
If the Nuggests win, George Karl will get his 1000th career victory courtesy of the Raptors. Raps may be known for allowing teams to break records against them, but you can bet that they won't let a Nuggets' win come that easy!

Raps Lose A Tough One In The Garden
By: Jonathan Joubran
Can you say.. tough loss? What a great game, loved the up-tempo action that both teams brought. Amazing from start to finish, just the Knicks had one lucky shot in the dieng seconds courtesy of Raymond Felton who played pretty well today with 28 points to go along with 11 dimes.
On our end, DeMar DeRozan played well with 19 points, while our star Andrea Bargnani had a career high of 41 points! Congrats Andrea, you deserve it! Check out the full boxscore here.
Next up for our Raptors is the Nuggets who lost tonight to the Boston Celtics without the superstar Carmelo Anthony.. maybe he won't play against Toronto?

No More Three's!
Photo courtesy of Yahoo! Sports Canada |
by The Rounder
Yes, it was a back-to-back and was obviously noticed when the Raptors, who appeared worn-out from the day before against the New York Knicks, got man-handled by the Indiana Pacers.
Lastnight, the Toronto Raptors took on a hot Indiana Pacers team. No, the "Raptors Fanatic Zone" was not present to cheer on their team. Would it really have made a difference if the Fanatics were there at Conseco Fieldhouse?
It appeared most of the Raptors players did not show up physically and mentally for this challenge. They gave up 12 three pointers the afternoon before vs the Knicks and handed 13 trays to the Pacers last night. The Raptors were destroyed, 124-100 which makes it two consectutive losses for our Dinos.
Although, Jose Calderon managed 21 points and Amir Johnson scored 15 for the Raptors, it wasn't enough to get the win. Andrea Bargnani, who was averaging 21 points coming in, was held to 12 points last night. Fact: Raptors are 1 of 8 when Bargnani scores under 20 points in a game.
The Raptors were held to 42% shooting on the night. That, together with the lack of defence at the perimeter were key to the loss.
We, The Fanatics, are calling to DeMar, Sonny and Kleiza to step up their games and give us something extra to cheer about from the comfort of our living room couches. WE KNOW YOU (Raptors) CAN WIN THE NEXT GAME!
The Raptors are at the Garden tomorrow as they take on the New York Knicks at 7:30pm ET hoping to avenge their loss from last Sunday.

Raps take care of the 'Thunder' storm on Friday!
by Jonathan Joubran
The Toronto Raptors were back at it on Friday night against the Durant-less Thunder. Although the Fanatics were not there, the vibe we left from last game was fully in effect as the Raptors completley brought it on both ends of the floor!
Only nine players in action, but a great effort from each player! Barbosa led the bench with 22 points, while Andrea Bargnani had a tremendous game with 26 points, 12 rebounds and a steal! Jose Calderon with an excellent game, proving that he deserves a starting spot with 8 points 15 assists and 2 steals. Young Onez played well. Sonny with 10 points, 4 rebounds, DeMar 14 points 5 rebounds while Amir had 14 points to go along with 9 rebounds!
The newbee's Ed Davis and Jerryd Bayless played well, Bay droppin' 7 points, 3 assists, while Ed got 6 points, 4 boards and a pair of dimes in only 17 minutes of action.
Next up for the Raptors is this Sunday against the New York Knicks.. watch out New York.. Raptors are lookin' out for some revenge on you from opening night!

Toronto Raptors Fanatics - Biography #2
by David Alexander
Hi, my name is David Alexander and I am a member of the Fanatics. Up until 6 years ago I knew very little about the NBA. I spent the first two decades of my life in Montreal where basketball is almost literally non existent in the media. When I made the move to Toronto, Raptor fever struck hard. I am now one of the wildest fans out there. I've been cheering from the Donyell Marshall, Matt Bonner and Mo Pete days to present and beyond.

For me, a classic memorable moment as a Raptors fan was when Rasho Nesterovic shot a clutch 3 pointer during the regular season at the end of a quarter... and made it. CLASSIC. I think I fell off my chair for that one. Favorite all time Raptor has to be Bargnani. (Pops also deserves honorable mention).
It is an honor for me to be cheering alongside such great people. We try to bring the hype every chance we get. So if you hear The Fanatics from across the stadium at the ACC, holla back. Or if anyone wants to have a random friendly dance battle in the ailses, come look for us in section 102/103!!
GO RAPTORS
Raptors Killed It. 'Nuff Said.
GREAT Game last night from everyone on the Raps squad! Awesome first game for Ed Davis (woot!). A big WELCOME from the Fanatic Zone!
It was a pretty awesome win last night and there really isnt much more to say than that. If you want a full recap, read this article from the Post. (photo credit below from them too). It pretty much sums up the sentiments of the Fanatics.
Next stop....OKC! Fanatics will not be in attendance at this game, but you WILL see us in our Sunday best against New York!
Gooooooo Raptors!
